    2nd Annual Butterfly Count

Join us for our second annual butterfly count! On July 13, 2018, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates will participate in the North American Butterfly Association‘s (NABA) Annual Butterfly Count. We’ll need volunteers to help us complete the survey and we hope that you’ll consider joining us in the field! The butterfly count helps researchers monitor population trends throughout the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Teams of volunteer butterfly spotters will spread out in the Ft. Myers and Cape Coral area to count butterflies as part of NABA’s 43rd annual count. Volunteers should be prepared to walk for at least two hours in hot, humid conditions as the survey takes place starting at 10:00 a.m.

No butterfly experience is necessary. Spotting groups will be a mix of beginners and seasoned butterfly enthusiasts and those with less experience can help out by recording data or taking photos. Consider joining our butterfly identification group to practice your skills before the big day: search Facebook for “SWFL Butterfly ID Practice.”

To participate in the count, you must pre-register before July 11 by emailing Britta at bsoderq@edisonfordwinterestates.org .
